Quality Engineer

Primary Roles and Responsibilities

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary at any time.

1. Corrective Action Team Leader

a. The Quality engineer is the leader of the corrective action process from start to finish, creating CARs, establishing the team and driving root cause analysis and corrective action.
b. Coordinates with customer on external sort activities by 3rd party or customer including providing sorting instructions and ensuring proper containment and certification activities are being followed
c. Responsible for customer required corrective action request submission and approvals.

2. Quality Management System

a. The Quality engineer is part of the Internal Audit team to ensure conformity and continual improvement of the Quality Management System.
b. Participates and champions continual improvement projects as they relate to the Quality Management System.

3. Manufacturing quality support

a. Attends customer meetings as required.
b. Lead customer audits as required.
c. Maintains and is responsible for customer scorecards and driving the improvement of scorecard performance.
d. Leads the internal non-conforming product process and drives containment, root cause and corrective action activities.
e. Evaluate and implement new metrology technology as requested.
f. Ensure gages are calibrated and proper record keeping of gage calibrations are maintained per internal and external requirements.

4. APQP support

a. Evaluate customer blueprints for feasibility and develop quality plans that meet customer expectations and aligns with the organization’s metrology strategies.
b. Create and maintain core documents (Process Flow, Control Plan, PFMEA)
c. Participate and evaluate Gage R&R, capability studies and other MSAs and assess feasibility of meeting internal and external requirements.
d. Participate in gage design and order gages as necessitated by the APQP process to ensure measurement consistency at PPAP and ongoing production.
e. Review measurement data reports with engineering to facilitate timely and accurate decision-making for changes to mold steel and/or process conditions
f. Compile customer approval documentation, including PPAP
g. Establish IMDS compliance as required.

5. Certification body support

a. Participate and lead certification body audits (Such as ISO audits, UL audits, etc.) as required.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND COMPETENCIES
  • Working knowledge of Corrective action tools such as 8D, 5 why etc.
  • Minitab 6-Pack reporting
  • Effective time and task management.
  • Working knowledge of plastic injection molded parts.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with engineers, vendors, and customers.
  • Leadership skills, including ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Decision-making and prioritization skills
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Thorough knowledge of quality tools, such as DOE, root cause analysis, Gauge R&R, capability studies, and GMP
  • Thorough knowledge of inspection equipment and procedures
  • Demonstrated team leading, problem solving and project management skills
  • Thorough knowledge of ISO requirement
  • Ability to host ISO audits with external auditor
  • Ability to read blueprints and have an understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Ability to work with all levels within the organization, as well as customers and vendors
  • Skills in statistical analysis and technical writing
  • Ability to travel between facilities and to customer locations
