After a series of meetings to determine the scope and goals of the project; Plastic Components, Inc. (PCI) worked with their resin distributor PolyOne, and the resin supplier, DuPont, to identify the proper materials for each of the 4 parts in the assembly. PCI also worked with the customer to optimize the part designs and assembly and packaging processes.

End caps

Six tools were quoted domestically at $240,000. PCI quoted with our offshore toolmakers at $138,000 - A cost savings to the customer of $102,000.

Gear

Powder metal part cost .25 cents. Customer converted to plastic for $.09. At 5 million pieces per year, PCI offered a $800,000 cost savings.

Bobbin

A strategic reevaluation of the automotive part. Customer was spending $.15 on part with an EAU of 1,800,000 pieces per year. PCI quoted $.12 per part resulting in a cost savings of $54,000 for the customer.
